Funeral Planning Insurance.
The costs involved in paying for a funeral are rising. Protect yourself and your family so that in the event of the worst happening you are financially covered.
On average, the typical cost of a funeral has soared in recent years. When using a funeral director, it is now estimated to be around £3,214 for a non-discretionary cremation, and £4136 for a non discretionary burial, which can soar in cost depending what (discretionary) additional services or fees are required, for example flowers, catering, estate management etc. For a burial, you also need to consider whether a plot is being purchased or is already owned.
As a result, people have had to become more conscious of the cost and how it is going to be paid for.
By far, the most popular way is to have some form of Life Insurance.
Where it is specifically for a funeral and associated costs – the most common method is usually a ‘Guaranteed Whole of Life’ plan. In simple terms, you agree to pay a set amount each month which is Guaranteed not to change and the Insurance Company will in turn, provide a policy with a set Sum Assured, which again, is guaranteed.
You should be aware that not all Whole of Life plans work like this.
There are many plans currently being held, such as Index Linked plans, which require regular reviews which can result in an increase in your monthly premium or in some cases, a reduction in the level of cover provided.
If you are in doubt, please contact us and we will be able to explain to you – without the jargon – and advise you accordingly.
If you are considering a NEW life insurance plan, this can be done in one of two ways. Either, you can provide medical information and the plan will be ‘Underwritten’ – which may mean writing to your GP etc, or alternatively, if you are aged 50 or over, you can apply for a plan which has no medical underwriting at all.
The benefit of the ‘Underwritten’ plan is that a higher sum assured will almost certainly be obtained for the same cost and the cover will start immediately on issue of the policy.
